The Stories Behind the Businesses You Know.
Homegrown Helena is a community publication dedicated to the real stories behind the people and businesses in our Montana backyard. The owners, the trades, the neighbors who show up every day. We also spotlight the moments that make this place worth living in — the events, the wins, and the good happening around us that doesn't always make the news. No rankings. No pay-to-play. Just honest stories about the people building something here.
Editorial. Free. No strings attached.
This is a free editorial platform. We profile local owner-operators — trades, services, shops, the people Helena depends on. Each profile tells their story: who they are, why they do what they do, and what makes them worth knowing.
We reach out to businesses we find interesting. We sit down and talk. We write it up and publish it. That's the whole thing.
This is not a paid directory. We never charge businesses to be featured.
We don't rate or compare. Every profile stands on its own.
No sponsored content, no banner ads, no pay-to-play. Just real stories.

Know a story we should tell?
Helena has no shortage of businesses built by people worth knowing. If you know an owner-operator whose story deserves to be told — a neighbor, a regular at your favorite shop, someone who's been at it for decades — tell us about them. We read every nomination.
No fees. No guarantees. Just a nomination we'll take seriously.

Allen Le Vie
Founder
I retired from the US Air Force in 2020 and now I'm honored to serve Helena-area businesses as an operations consultant. I believe the best businesses in town deserve to have their stories told.
This project grew out of a simple observation: Helena is full of businesses built by people worth knowing — and most of their stories have never been told. The plumber who's been at it for thirty years. The shop owner who knows every customer by name. The outfitter who'd rather be on the water than on Instagram. The operation that's been a Helena staple for decades but never stopped long enough to tell anyone how it started.
Homegrown Helena is for all of them.
